The strength of Hanyang University is that it continues to challenge
and pioneer new paths. There is an increasing demand and interest in
digital treatments that can supplement traditional treatments, thanks
to the 4th industrial revolution and the development of information and
communication technology. To be able to lead the digital healthcare field
and to create new values in this digital era, Hanyang University opened the
Hanyang Digital Healthcare Center.
034

Hanyang Digital Healthcare Center, which will be conducting research related to the promotion of psychological and
mental health digitally, was opened. With the rapid development of information and communication technology in
recent years, digital therapy was introduced as a new concept at the world’s largest IT exhibition (CES), JP Morgan
Healthcare Conference, etc. Digital therapy refers to management and improvement of illness through apps, virtual
reality (VR), and games. In line with this trend, Hanyang Digital Healthcare Center plans to develop customized
solutions after collecting and analyzing people’s behavior data with artificial intelligence (AI). The goal is to treat
depression, ADHD, dementia, and stress through mobile apps without time and space restrictions.
Hanyang Digital Healthcare Center signed an MOU with Samsung
Life Insurance for content and service development in October
2021. Through the agreement signed at the Seoul campus, the
two organizations agreed to actively cooperate by exchanging
information and developing solutions for mental health-related
digital healthcare contents and services, as the need has risen
exponentially due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

Heo Jun-yeop (Chemical and Molecular Engineering, Class
of ‘16), who was a student in the Department of Chemical
and Molecular Engineering at the College of Science and
Technology Convergence, ERICA Campus, passed away
in April 2021. Jun-yeop’s father, though in great loss,
donated KRW 20 million to the Department of Chemical
and Molecular Engineering in remembrance of his son.
The father of the late alum Heo Jun-yeop said, “It gives me
a great comfort to think that the tuition fees I had saved
for my son’s education are being used for his classmates
and juniors. I think this will make him happy in heaven.”

group has raised money and made donations outside of a
donation event hosted by the External Relations Team. To
induce more participation and make it more meaningful,
Arosaegim collaborated with the External Relations Team
and donated KRW 300,000 from the profits earned during
the festival to the Grand Stadium fund.

Super Digital Innovation,
Metaverse, Enters the Campus
Metaverse is considered as a future technology that can drastically change
our world. The idea of transcending the boundaries and limitations of the
real world and virtual reality is becoming less unfamiliar to the people in
the industry as well as those in the school. This is because non-face-to-face
classes and activities, which were first introduced to prevent the spread
of COVID-19, proved the need for a digital campus. The metaverse is thus
expanding its influence within Hanyang University.
062

On September 1, 2021, Hanyang University Business School held the First Day of Classes Ceremony as a metaverse
event for 30 employees of LG Electronics H&A (Home and Appliance & Air solution) business headquarters
participating in the Digital Innovation (DX) Professional course. Participants communicated with each other and took
pictures in the metaverse space, just like they would in real life.
The student group association in ERICA Campus, Irum, reproduced the Democracy Plaza in the metaverse space and
conducted an open recruitment for three days from September 7 to 9, 2021. Campus space created in metaverse for
the student group recruitment was enjoyed by many students for having diverse programs and successfully creating
the feeling of being in a real university space.

The ERICA Campus held the first festival since the outbreak of COVID-19 as a hybrid event in online and offline spaces.
The student group association in ERICA Campus, Irum, held the festival in two venues: the real Democracy Plaza and
the virtual Democracy Plaza in the Gather Town in the metaverse. The festival organization committee recreated the
campus, from the main gate Agora to the Democracy Plaza, in a virtual space, adding to the fun of the festival despite
the difficult circumstances of COVID-19.

Professor Han Dong-seop in the Department of Media Communications has been offering a counseling program in
a metaverse space since the winter break of the 2021 academic year. The metaverse counseling program was first
started to help international students who could easily be marginalized during COVID-19, but soon was expanded to
Korean students. Professor Han said, “Ironically, the interpersonal relationships can be more intimate in the virtual
world than in the real world,” and “hierarchies in reality, including that between a teacher and a student, can be
relaxed in the metaverse.”

Even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the people of Hanyang had a
meaningful year full of wisdom, passion, cooperation, and harmony. The
following moments are the highlights of Hanyang in social media in 2021.
074

Hanyangdangdo is a choreographed music video
of a song written by students. The song and lyrics
were written by “Setitdan,” a group of students from
the Korean traditional music department, and the
choreography was done by the alumni startup company,
“mvnt studio.” The music video of Hanyangdangdo
was enjoyed by the audience internally and externally.
Everything was on pause due to COVID-19 in the spring
of 2021. How did the people of Hanyang respond to
the pandemic? A video of the proud people of Hanyang
was produced to celebrate the 82nd anniversary of the
school’s foundation.

In November 2021, the 9th Harmony of Love and Hope
concert was held to celebrate the 61st anniversary
of the College of Music. The performance by the
Hanyang Philharmonic Orchestra and voice professors
at the College of Music was streamed live to reach a
widespread audience.
A hot stage event took place at the Seoul campus in the
middle of the night, in winter, in front of the beautifully
glowing Lion Statue. The social science college’s dance
