Ansan Science Valley has been designated as a new Free Economic Zone by the Free Economic Zone Committee of
the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, becoming the only free economic zone in Korea located within the Seoul
metropolitan area that also includes a subway influential area. Ansan Science Valley is one of the leading industry–
academia research clusters in the metropolitan region, centered on the academia–industry research cluster built
around Hanyang University’s ERICA Campus and the Campus Innovation Park. It brings together research institutes
and high-growth SMEs ― including Gyeonggi Technopark; the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology; the Korea
Testing Laboratory; and the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute. Leveraging these geographical and
administrative advantages, Hanyang University has begun nurturing talent in the field of Physical AI.
Establishing a Physical AI Campus as a Leading Industry–Academia Research
Cluster in the Metropolitan Area
In the additional AI-field selection of the “Stage 4 BK21 Innovative Talent Development Project,” the Ministry
of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea have selected the Education/Research/Industry–
Centric Physical AI Education and Research Group of the ERICA Campus, led by Professor Kang Kyung-tae of
the Department of Artificial Intelligence in the College of Computing, with an outstanding evaluation. For
research in Physical AI, securing industrial data is especially important. Through Ansan Science Valley, which
has recently been designated as a Free Economic Zone, ERICA Campus has secured optimal infrastructure with a
well-established environment for demonstration-based research.

One-Stop Student Services at Hanyang
From Academics and Scholarships
to Career Support and Internships
Hanyang University is widely recognized for pioneering innovative educational systems
and approaches. Its forward-thinking vision and strong execution have led to numerous
successful initiatives. In 2025, the university undertook a comprehensive renovation of
its student support services, placing student-centered values at the forefront.
074
Student Union Building Transformed into an Integrated Administrative Hub
As part of this transformation, Hanyang redesigned its student support system and created a centralized
administrative space. In April 2025, the existing Student Union building was fully renovated. The previous
structure, where student-related administrative functions were spread across multiple departments and
locations, has been restructured to provide more integrated support throughout the student experience. By
transforming the Student Center — one of the most familiar campus spaces — into a student-centered hub,
both accessibility and user experience have been significantly improved.
Key Points of the Renovation
Establishment of a central hub for student support by consolidating into one space major
departments under the Office of Student Affairs & Career Development — including
academics, scholarships, career services, and internships
Integration of academic administrative services previously scattered across individual colleges
into a single location
Creation of the student-exclusive community space, “HY-CREW Lounge,” and enhanced
openness through a full renovation of the first floor
Expansion of activity infrastructure through the renovation of the concert hall and small theater,
supporting student events, recruitment briefings, performances, and club activities
Development of an integrated, student-centered environment that seamlessly connects
support services and activity spaces, enabling continuous support across academics, career
development, and extracurricular engagement
